Game Date: 4/24/3200 E.C. – 5/1/3200 E.C.

The party used this time to recover from the spellburn and other ravages of their previous adventures . . .

Game Date: 5/2/3200 E.C.

The party, following sinister hints in the Grimoire Nex, visited the Squalor Court in Punjar, seeking the Witch of Saulim for hints about how to bring back the dead.

While some of the party stood watch outside the tent (notably Gazal and Aric Twofingers), Amethyst led the way into the tent, greeting the witch as “sister.” Hours passed outside the tent while only a short while seemed to pass within. The Witch of Saulim performed a reading from the deck oh Thoth-Ruin, giving the party clues on how to visit the realm of the death and bring back the dead. They took The Moon as their totem card.

Game Date: 5/3/3200 E.C. (Full Moon)

The party assaulted the Temple of the Moon in Punjar, climbing the ziggurat and attacking the guards on the platform at the top. Unfortunately, the guards were able to summon assistance. Fortunately, so were the party, using Tamash’s War Horn of Elfland spell. The party watched through the opening at the top (and several were blinded temporarily by the moonlight), the Tamash jumped down using a feather fall cast by Domnos, stabbed the abbotess, wrestled the argent falx from her, and was hauled up by rope.

The Abbotess of Mani swears revenge! (The party also swears to take out the Cult of Mani, so they’re even).

Game Date: 5/4/3200 E.C.

The party goes to the site of the ruins of the temple of the Carnifex, then follows Ash Alley to the site of the old Charnel Pits. They find a shrine to the Carnifex, and Domnos lit a candle. They entered the Pits, used force manipulation to make a bridge through some of the ruins, then past the ovens to where the ghost of a fishwife named Moira guarded the Gates of Death. Domnos used the Blade of Atropos spell to cut through Moira, destroying her forever, and cut the silver chain to get through the Gates of Death . . .

The party entered the Realm of Death, where Death awaited on a throne, attended by his concubine Eris, and the Witch of Saulim. They could see fallen companions, such as Vallardine, Caliph, Moloch, and Morgan, bound with silver chains. Eris offered them the chance to gamble their lives to save dead companions.

Domnos risked her life to gamble for the life of Vallardine . . . and won! Tamash used the argent falx to cut him free,

Then Gazal gambled for the life of Caliph, the first member of the party to die in the Portal Under the Stars! Vallardine lent almost all his Luck to Gazal so that he could cheat Death . . . and he won! Tamash cut the chains with the argent falx, and Caliph rejoined the party!

The party was about to flee back through the portal to Punjar, when Eris offered them a chance to play against Death himself for a future resurrection! The party wisely chose to flee back through the portal without risking this . . .

Game Date: 5/4/3200 E.C. – 5/9/3200 E.C.

The party spent time resting and healing, and allowing Vallardine to recover his Luck!

Game Date: 4/16/3200 E.C.

The party camped in the Antechamber with their guide from among the Pious of the Light, Lurup. The next morning, they decided to check out the left-hand door to the south from the Antechamber. Gazal fell in a pit trap, and Tamash used burning hands both to clear away the roots and heal Gazal.

The party then found and looted the hidden reliquary, including the chasse containing Oil of Slaying, 3 flasks of holy water of the Carnifex, and a cumdach containing the Grimoire Nex. Beneath the chasse they also found the Shawl Silenti, which was donned by Gazal.

The party next wanted to check out the right-hand door, the “Oubliette of Luthold the Mad,” but Lurup told them it was forbidden. So Domnos used a sleep spell on Lurup and Amethyst erased his memory of the whole thing. Meanwhile, they did visit Luthold the Mad, who was pretty useless to the party despite being victim to Aric’s lotus stare.

Later, Lurup led the party to the Grotto of the Worm, where Aric used the lotus stare to use Lurup to help destroy the jewels of the carnifex (losing lots of fingers in the process!). The party looted lots of treasures that had belonged to the Carnifex cult and which had been kept by the Pious of the Light.

Finally, the party faced Azazel of the Light and his “Pious of the Light” followers. Tamash used the War Horn of Elfland to summon fey troops to fight the Pious. They destroyed the Pious and then went home.

Game Date: 4/17/3200 E.C. to 4/24/3200 E.C.

The wizards, elf, and cleric in the party had time to study the Grimoire Nex at their leisure and learn the secrets of summoning the powers of death . . .

Upon arrival back in Punjar, the party finds a notorious scoundrel named Magnar the Lucky passed out, sleeping off an epic lotus binge. In his hand they find a map purporting to show the location of the long-lost Undertemple of the Carnifex, said to be the last resting place of an overlord’s ransom in jewels! The party goes to get supplies and seek rumors before attempting to penetrate the Undertemple . . .

Game Date: 4/15/3200 E.C.

The party entered the Undertemple by means of a forgotten passageway through the sewers, using force manipulation to avoid the perils of both sewage and a giant, mutant spider. They faced a set of six undead shades and a bunch of members of an apparent religious order called “The Pious of the Light.” They met with their leader, “Azazel of the Light,” and agreed to help destroy the Jewels of the Carnifex in order to lock that dark goddess away for good!

The party made camp and intended to continue the next day . . .

As a red sun dawned in the Vale, the party tried to decide where to look for the remaining plaques. As they set out through the Low Gate, Tamash noticed a loose flagstone covering a shaft leading to caves below the Manor. Domnos dropped down a torch and used her crystal globe to scry ahead, seeing swarms of flies below. They climbed down the shaft. Aric Twofingers used Turn Unholy to dispel the clouds of flies. They made their way to a copper doorway. Gazal fell down a pit trap in front of the door. The party was unable to open the door, but Aric was able to turn it into delicious food using Food of the Gods.

The Jester arrived and tried to distract the party, but working together, Gazal, Tamash, and Tamash’s Invisible Companion managed to open the coffer and acquire the Devil Card. The Jester fled in fury.

The party climbed out of the cavern and spent a long time searching the shore of the lake for a way into the realm of the Red Sorceress. Gazal went swimming, but saw nothing. Aric tried to Detect Magic, but failed, and had to spend an hour praying for forgiveness. After this, they went back to the battlefield, then decided to travel to the Tower Beyond the Moon. They waited for the bridge to appear, and Amethyst and Domnos used force manipulation to make platforms to protect them on the crossing.

The party visited the clockwork court of the yellow king, and took a mysterious black vial that they were offered, but did not open it. They found their way to the torture chamber and claimed the plaques, escaping from the Tower.

Having found the key to visiting the Red Sorceress, they prepared to enter her realm under the lake. Domnos invoked the Three Fates before beginning the expedition . . . and so, when facing the Sorceress, having acquired the last plaques, she was able to Spellburn using her last chaos stone to cast an epic Force Manipulation and thus escape the collapsing undersea lair of the Sorceress.

Game Date: 4/8/3200 E.C. (Empyrean Calendar)

Returning to the Manor the next morning, they planned to use the power of the plaques and the Throne of the Archmagi to open up a gateway home. Tamash successfully opened the portal, gaining a level and spells in the process, and they arrived back in Punjar to take a long rest . . .

The party passed through one of the Nether Gates and into the Vale of the Magi. They watched the moon set in front of a distant tower, and as they trudged down into the vale, watched a blue sun rise! They passed by a battlefield on their way to a manor house by a lake . . .

At the lake, Aric Twofingers used his new Lotus Stare spell to hypnotize Gazal and make him jump in the lake! The Low Gate to the Manor House by the lake seemed ancient and disused, so the party went around to the High Gate. There, they were greeted by some Ladies-in-Waiting in yellow (Signe, Nyx, and Moira) and the Matron who cared for them. The Ladies seemed quite taken with Tamash, Gazal, and Gorm, and invited them to the High Fete that night (including a tournament to choose champions for the Ladies), though the Matron made her disapproval clear.

The Matron began to confide to Domnos that she secretly wished for some way out of the Vale, and was beginning to explain about the strange nature of that place, when they were interrupted by Father Moro, a creepy red-clad priest, with some red-clad men-at-arms. He seemed vaguely menacing and threatening, but ultimately he departed to attend to his clerical duties. The Matron escorted her charges to their room, leaving the party to explore the Manor House.

Entering the Great Hall, they encountered a melancholy warrior in yellow, Captain Kaschei, the “Prince of Swords” . . . he was drunk and brawled a bit with the party when Domnos tried to take his bottle. He explained more about the nature of the Vale of the Magi, and the plaques that control the destiny of everyone in the Vale. He told them of the Magician-King, Darjr, the Sorceress Eriodade, and the Wizard Al-Hazred. The King on Yellow Darjr dwells in the Tower Beyond the Moon, and the Red Sorceress Eriodade dwells beneath the lake, but none knew where the Blue Wizard Al-Hazred dwelt. They also encountered a creepy little Fool or Jester that seemed to prevent them from learning much more from Kaschei.

They found a trap door hidden under a carpet with three locks – one iron, one copper, and one gold. They decided to try to find the keys and return.

The party went to the High Fete being held at the Manor House. The three male champions, Tamash, Gazal, and Gorm, received favors from the Ladies-in-Waiting in the form of keys – iron, copper, and gold. Tamash even suffered the touch of iron to bear his Lady Signe’s token. The Tournament involved a Grand Melee in which the champions battled blue-clad warriors in service to the Blue Wizard, Al-Hazred. After their victory, they also slew Father Moro and his red-clad men-at-arms. Aric claimed the enchanted Sacrificial Bowl and Dagger that belonged to Moro (which allow a cleric to cast spells more effectively, at the risk of suicidal madness), and Gazal put on some of his red robes.

The party returned to the trap door under the Great Hall and used the keys they had obtained to enter the Manor Tomb. They defeated a Stone Drake by putting it to sleep with a spell. They found and attempted to use the scrying pool known as the Eye of Al-Hazred, but the entity within it tried to kill Gazal, and Aric ultimately drove the creature away. This revealed that the pool contained the plaques in the keeping of Al-Hazred.

Tamash claimed the plaques, and this caused Al-Hazred, who was in the next chamber, to implode. The party was able to retrieve the Celestial Mantle of Al-Hazred, his blue cloak, that allows a wizard to cast certain spells more effectively, for a price in life-force . . . .

Game Date: 4/7/3200 E.C.

The party emerged from the Manor Tomb just before dawn, to see the Fool deal the cards between the remaining Magi, the Yellow King Darjr and the Red Sorceress Eriodade. Eriodade claimed the upper hand, and it was a red sun that rose over the Vale of the Magi that day . . .

Stepping out of the Manor House to see the red sunrise, the party also noted that the Vale seemed smaller than it was the day before – the Vale was shrinking! If they don’t find a way back to Punjar soon, the Vale may be destroyed, and the party with it!

Past the Corpse Gate, Budabob (who had been Katy’s henchmen) joined the party, having followed them up the mountain. The party was preparing to make camp for the night when someone in the temple released some two-headed hounds! Three of these monsters attacked the party, with a breath that could apparently age a victim years. The party slew these monsters handily, with magic missiles from Tamash and Budabob, plus a mighty deed by Gazal that smashed the two heads of one hound together with his battleaxe.

After the battle with the two-headed hounds, the party made their way over to the Fountain. Each member of the party drank from the fountain, restoring their health and their Luck! Then they camped for the night, grateful that they were not disturbed again in their rest.

Game Date: 3/10/3200 E.C.

After refilling their water from a small pond nearby (not from the Fountain – they did not dare to tempt the Fates!), the party prepared to explore. They voted to explore the grounds first before assaulting the Temple of Destiny.

They explored the kitchen (and took some salt), an administration office (where they found a sturdy coffer, which Domnos defended with a rope work spell so that her companions would not loot the money that belonged to the Fates), some living quarters (where Amethyst found some pillows full of goose down, some of which she took so that she can summon geese with her animal summoning spell), an outhouse (in which Tamash found a hidden stash of pipeweed), and a warehouse stocked with food (which they decided to revisit before setting out back towards Punjar).

Before entering the Temple of Destiny, Domnos cast Blade of Atropos, Aric cast a Blessing upon his companions, Amethyst prepared a weapon using Force Manipulation, and Budabob protected himself with a Magic Shield spell. They entered the temple and encountered Glipkerio – 8 different versions of the same man! They fought to defeat all the versions of the man, and managed to free the Three Fates from a magical circle that had them imprisoned. When the last version of Glipkerio was defeated, he metamorphosed into the strange cat-headed giant they had fought in Cragsmere. When the last of him had vanished in a flash of orange light, the party faced The Three Fates and The King of Elfland.

The heroes were rewarded – those whose patrons were the Fates or the King of Elfland gained a better chance of calling upon them successfully the next time they need to do so. They took the 2 halves of the broken Chronomantic Amulet, as well as the Coprolite Club that had belonged to Glipkerio. They were also given knowledge of a series of hidden portals in Punjar, the so-called Nether Gates. They were given directions to a secret alley in the Smoke, the lowest ward of Punjar, in which several brightly painted doorways were actually gateways to far away places and times. They were told the purple door at the end of that alley could take them near to their original homeland.

The party spent the night at the Temple of Destiny, and in the morning set out for Punjar . . .

Game Date: 4/3/3200 E.C.

On this date the party arrived back in Punjar. The wizards among them had studied the parts of the Chronomantic Amulet, and had concluded that it might be made to work again with a Mending spell, or by a skilled jeweler. Since none of the wizards knew the Mending spell, the heroes decided to look for a jeweler to repair the amulet.

Game Date: 4/4/3200 E.C.

Having investigated the best place to have the amulet repaired, the party visited the shop of Boss Ogo, whose shop was at the corner of Cheap Street and Dowager Alley. Boss Ogo said that he could fix the amulet within a couple of days for 300 gp. The party agreed, so Boss Ogo wrote out a receipt for them.

Game Date: 4/6/3200 E.C.

The party picked up the Chronomantic Amulet from Boss Ogo in the morning. They found that it was no longer as powerful as it had been in the hands of Glipkerio, but it could still be useful to a spellcaster to get a second chance at a spell or two. The amulet was taken by Tamash

After preparing their gear for a new adventure, the party followed the directions given to them by the Three Fates to the hidden alley that contained a set of Nether Gates. The narrow alley had three doors on either side and one door straight ahead. They decided not to go through the purple door at the end, the one that would bring them close to their homeland . . . not yet. Instead, they narrowly chose a cornflower blue door on the right o ver a blood-red door on the left..

They went through the cornflower blue door, and found themselves in a dark cave. Through a narrow passage, they found their way out of the cave and out into the moonlight of a vale with a manor by a lake, and a tower in the distance . . .

The party was in the great city of Punjar. Domnos went to the Souk and sold party treasure for good coin. Gazal had his Hound Helmet made from the skull of the Hound of Hirot. Amethyst successfully bonded to her new Patron, Bobugbubliz, and purchased an eagle feather quill and some ink.

That night, Tamash had a dream that his Patron, The King of Elfland, ordered him to “help the Three Sisters.” He awoke with the conviction that it had been no ordinary dream.

Game Date: 2/15/3200 E.C.

While enjoying a surprisingly warm night in Punjar, Domnos and the rest of the party were approached by her Patrons, The Three Fates. They said that they needed the party to go to their Temple atop Mount Tyche and liberate it from the forces of Chaos. They gave Domnos a golden thread that would protect her from Chaos, and warn that their power “is undone by the number seven” . . .

Seemingly in a trance, the party members mount their steeds and ride east to the Sentinels, where they arrive in Cragsmere, a hamlet at the foot of Mount Tyche, on 3/10/3200.

Game Date: 3/10/3200 E.C.

The party arrived in the hamlet of Cragsmere at the foot of Mount Tyche. They found the village utterly abandoned. Gazal broke down the door to a house, and found it had been abandoned some days before.

Finding nothing of interest in the hamlet of Cragsmere, the party was about to set out up Mount Tyche when a terrible, 11’ tall giant corrupted by terrible magics appeared in a flash of orange light. The giant had a catlike head, a tentacle arm, and uprooted a tree to use as a club. The heroes managed to kill it (mostly due to the Magic Missiles of Tamash, and with the help of Gorm, who was badly wounded in the fighting. On the body of the giant, Gazal found a black metal medallion which was broken, appearing to depict a clock face.

The party left their mounts under the watchful eye of Tamash’s familiar, and started up the mountain . . .

The party soon encountered robes and cowled monks who refused to show their faces. They claimed to be monk of the Three Fates injured in a battle with dragons atop Mount Tyche, but when Tamash threatened and challenged the monks, they disappeared in a flash of orange light . . . As they started their journey up the mountain, they encountered a severed dwarf’s head that somehow could still speak, just repeating “You go now!”

The party fought their way past some devilkin of Obitu-Que. They found the nest of some giant bird, and Amethyst found a silvered dagger inscribed “Lady Blackbird” that lights up like a torch when the pommel is pressed. From the nest, Domnos was able to climb up to the next part of the trail and lower down a rope.

Just up the trail from there, they encountered 5 Snow Apes possessed by the demonic spirit of Obitu-Que. They killed three of the apes, and the other two fled. The party decided not to pursue them.

The party made it to the Stairs of Fate and successfully figured out how to climb the stairs. Amethyst used Tadpole Transformation to obtain the leaping power of a frog to leap up the necessary stairs.

At the top of the stairs, the party had to fight their way past a Corpse Gate made by necromancy from the parts of the villagers of Cragsmere, with Domnos wielding tthe spell Blade of Atropos. Once they smashed their way past the Corpse Gate, they decided to rest before moving on . . .

The next morning, the party woke up in the Bed Chamber deep beneath the Cave of Secrets. After a hearty breakfast and discussion with Gorm about the exact location and nature of the vault of the One Who Watches From Below, they decided to try to scry the vault before proceeding. Domnos could not quite make her scrying crystal work, but Amethyst was able to use it to look into the vault, and so they refined their plans . . .

They proceeded down to the caverns beneath the temple, and Gorm led them through the caverns to a place where Gorm said that there were wheelbarrows; and indeed, there were, but Aric was able to magically detect Whateley and some of the “halfling hybrids” waiting in the dark to ambush them. So they needed a plan to distract Whateley and his minions. So Amethys used her animal summoning spell to conjure a pig, and Gazal attached a length of chain to it so it would make noise as it wandered through the caverns. They set it loose and waited until Whateley’s crew followed, then they headed down to the vault, feeling pleased that they had outsmarted the forces of evil using a pig . . .

As they prepared to enter the Vault of Eyes, Amethyst had used force manipulation to conjure a floating platform onto which they could pile treasure, Domnos had fashioned a similar mobile platform from rope using rope trick, and Aric Twofingers used a prayer of detect magic to identify the containers – bags and chests – with magical items in them. Thus prepared, they entered the Vault of Eyes.

They immediately descended to the low level near the pit that they believed contained the One Who Watches From Below. They began to grab large bags and pile them onto the platforms, and were not surprised to hear ominous rumblings begin almost immediately. Next, the plan was for every member to grab a small bag, but Domnos instead* used force manipulation to set up a force field between the party and the pit, while Katy and Aric loaded a treasure chest onto a platform. Then they began to run for the exit.

Almost immediately, walls of eyes opened all around them, and the tentacles and eyestalks of the thing in the pit begain to burst forth to attack, though it was frustrated by the force field. Even so, as the party fled, the eyes began to fire eye-beams at the party, afflicting them in various ways (heat, cold, death-rays, and even polymorphing Aric Twofingers into a frog, then a cat). The powerful will of the thing in the pit was able to reach out and make the heroes try to throw themselves into the pit (mostly Gorm and Gazal, who kept saving each other). Stalactites and debris began to rain from the ceiling, and Gorm was knocked unconscious, but Gazal dragged him along with a grappling hook.

Domnos used invoke patron to call upon the Three Fates, and gained a blessing from them, which she used to fuel a truly epic casting of force manipulation to create a powerful bubble of force around the party to shield their escape. As they fled through the caverns, battling disembodied eyes firing death-rays, they ran into Whateley and his halfling hybrid minions, waiting to ambush them. Tamash blasted them into oblivion with magic missiles. They managed to grab a page from his spellbook with the wizard spell detect evil on it before continuing to flee.

Finally, the party escaped from the Cave of Secrets just as it collapsed into rubble, burying all trace of the One Who Watches From Below . . . so the party hopes . . .

They made camp, divided up and examined their loot, and made plans to return to Punjar.

Game Date: 2/13/3200 E.C.

On this date, the party arrived back in the city of Punjar. Amethyst, having seen the power of Chaos and being disappointed in her attempt to serve the Powers of Law, converted to Chaos with the spiritual aid of Aric Twofingers. She dedicated herself to a new Patron, Bobugbubliz, in order to complete her transition to Chaos.

The party was in the Inner Sanctum beneath the Cave of Secrets, but unbeknownst to them, Katy the Brigand had decided to follow them down. Katy had followed the chalk markings left by Domnos the Controller, and thus had found her way safely to the Rune Hallway that led to the Inner Sanctum. As Katy tried to make her way down the hallway, she triggered the electricity trap, and her scream brought the rest of the party running. Tamash the Seer nimbly made his way to her body, and Aric Twofingers was able to lay on hands and heal her.

After Katy the Brigand rejoined them, the party retreated to the Bed Chamber and camped there for the night to recover their strength and spells.

Game Date: 2/10/3200 E.C.

In the morning, the party returned to the Inner Sanctum, and decided to try the remaining doors counterclockwise. The first door led to a Library. Aric used a spell of detect magic to search the room, and discovered that 8 of the books were magical. Gazal the Brigand tried pulling one of those books off the shelf, and all 8 books suddenly launched into the air, flapping around like gigantic birds or bats, beginning a furious battle that the party barely survived.

They found a book relating to The One Who Watches From Below, and Domnos read it, despite the debilitating effects of making her extremely paranoid for a while. The book described the treasure-filled vaults of the elder god, the One Who Watches From Below, Shigazilnizthrub.

The next room was the Tapestry Room. Tamash detected a door hidden behind the tapestry, which depicted eyes at the bottom, giant worms above them, smaller worms above, and at the top the green sunlit fields of the world above. The party decided to come back to the Tapestry Room when they had checked all the doors from the Inner Sanctum.

First, however, they went back to the hallway that led to the Inner Sanctum and tried the door on the opposite hallway from the Bed Chamber. They found an alchemy lab, with the eye of newt and choady tongue needed for the Ritual of Reunification. There was no owlbear fur, however.

Next, they entered a Kennel guarded by two vilehunds, demonic dog creatures that were hosts to eyes with a petrifying gaze. Both Gazal and Aric were petrified, but once the creatures were defeated the effect eventually wore off. Among the creatures in the Kennel was an owlbear, so they got the fur needed for the Ritual of Reunification.

Tamash noticed a secret door from the Kennel and the party found themselves in a Stasis Chamber in which fetal hybrids were stored in jars. The horrified party smashed the jars, throwing them down an 80’ pit and using a flask of oil to light the whole mess on fire.

Checking another door from the Kennel, they found a room with a giant Magic Mouth which attempted to devour the party. They managed to slay this monstrosity partially by the mighty deed of knocking stalactites down into it.

Behind the tapestry in the Tapestry Room, the door led to stairs descending into caverns below. In the antechamber at the bottom, they encountered a pair of eyes – they eyes of Gorm the dwarf, whose body they had discovered in the Cave of Secrets. They established communication with him, and decided to attempt to rejoin his eyes to his body. So they retrieved his body, returned to the Ritual Chamber with the eyes, body, and reagents (eye of newt, choady tongue, and owlbear fur), and tried the Ritual of Reunification. Domnos conducted the ritual, with Amethyst assisting, and was able to restore Gorm, who was able to tell them of the dangers and treasures that await in the vault below . . .

The party retreated back to the Bed Chamber to get some sleep before attempting to rob the treasure vault of the One Who Watches From Below . . .

Game Date: 2/11/3200 E.C.

When they awaken the next day, the party will try to rob the treasure vaults of the One Who Watches from Below with the aid of Gorm the dwarf . . .

Game Dates: 1/30/3200 – 2/6/3200 E.C.

The Court of Chaos had transported the party back to the Known Realms, but they arrived across the Lirean Sea in the city of Punjar, The Tarnished Jewel, Capital of the Southern Province, far from their home in the rural village of Longdale in Thire. Arriving in the strange foreign city, it took a few days for the party to work out exactly where they had ended up, but they found a reasonably priced (1 sp/day) inn and outfitted themselves with mounts and gear.

The party had been contemplating the best way to try to get back to their homeland – whether by ship across the Lirean Sea or by riding all the way around it, through unknown deserts and wastelands and mountains, when they heard rumors of a place called the Cave of Secrets, apparently an oracle of some kind. Large offerings of gold and jewels are made to consult the cave’s wisdom. On the night of the 6th, the heroes came upon a map purporting to show the way to the Cave of Secrets.

Domnos the Evoker used her scrying crystal to look where the map would lead, and saw that there was indeed a cave at that place. The party decided to set out for the cave the next day – though whether in search of wisdom or plunder, who can say? Perhaps both, as this party balances those who follow Law and those who follow Chaos . . .

Game Date: 2/8/3200 E.C.

On this day, the party arrived at the Cave of Secrets – a sign outside read simply “ENTER.” Amethyst used her ventriloquism spell to call into the cave, and they heard the voice of an old man calling back from within.

Entering the cave, the party encountered an old man who introduced himself as Whatley, the caretaker. The room had an obsidian obelisk in the center, carved with a baleful glaring eye. In front of the obelisk was an altar of some kind, where apparently the huge offerings were made (spoken of in all the lore they had found of the Cave of Secrets. After a brief discussion with him, he seemed to realize that they did not “belong there,” and he attacked them with his walking stick, hitting Tamash on the head. Tamash responded by knocking away his walking stick, at which the old man dissolved into black smoke and vanished.

Investigating further, they found an alcove to the north in which they found a sleeping dwarf wearing a holy symbol of Klazath, the god of war. Attempting to wake him, they discovered that he had no eyes, just featureless flesh where his eye sockets should be. They were unable to wake him.

Exploring the southern end of the cave, there was a vast pit (more than 100’ deep), and hidden around a bend, a stairway leading up to an adamantine gate. They managed to reach through the bars of the gate with a mirror and a 10’ pole and release the latch.

Next, they encountered a huge door carved in the shape of a demonic face, with three eyes made from fist-sized emeralds. The party forced the door, but decided to leave the emeralds alone for the moment. Domnos used rope work to make a large, bear-like form out of rope and sent it up and down the halls looking for traps.

The party took the passage to the right beyond the “demon-door,” finding a secret door at the end, and then a steep stair down, down, down into the darkness, connecting to the pit they had found before. They also found a ladder leading up to a trap door under a rug. From that room, they found an armory and resupplied themselves with weapons. The armory had a couple of small supply closets, one of which had a pipe with a metal grating. Amethyst played her ukulele into the pipe and listed to the echoes. Tamash plugged the grating with clay he was still carrying from his days as an elven artisan.

From here they made their way to a chamber with a giant sculpture of a demonic skull with three emeralds for eyes. The room also had two huge pillars shaped like eye-stalks, with huge eyes on the end. There were also tapestries depicting worms and eyes. The party struck at one of the pillars, and they came to life, bashing Gazal and crushing his chest, nearly killing him. The party managed to sever the eye-stalks.

Badly injured, the party retreated to the armory and set up camp for the night there, until Aric could heal them in the morning.

Game Date: 2/9/3200 E.C.

The next morning, the party returned to the room with the demonic skull sculpture with huge emerald eyes. Domnos attempted to pry out an emerald with her shortsword, and was subjected to The Curse of the Emerald Eye, removing her eyes from her body and allowing them to slide around onto objects and communicate with blinking and eye expressions. Amethyst knocked the emerald out of the sculpture with a well-placed arrow, but then she tried to pick it up and also became cursed!

With both wizards out of commission, it was not clear how they party would find a cure for the curse. But Tamash called upon his Patron, The King of Elfland, who sent him back in time a few moments, so that he was able to warn the party not to touch the emeralds and what would happen if they did. Thus the party was saved from The Curse of the Emerald Eyes.

From here, the party traveled north to some sort of trophy room filled with eyeless statues. There, they fought and killed two mutated halfling-like creatures whose skulls were covered with eyes. From there, the followed a hallway until they found that it connected back to hallways they had already explored. They returned to the room with the demonic skull sculpture and went through the double doors. They found a hallway with a checkered pattern of black and red tiles on the floor.

Aric Twofingers was the first to cross, sticking only to black squares (picked arbitrarily!). The others crossed one by one, but Amethyst stumbled and was jolted with electricity that nearly killed her. They stopped to take care of her.

Next the party found a bedchamber. They found a scrap of paper with the phrase, “. . . the power of the One Who Watches from . . .”They also found a book with The Ritual of Reunification, to restore the eyes to someone afflicted by The Curse of the Emerald Eye. The ritual requires placing the body and eyes of the afflicted on a special altar, then using choady tongue, eye of newt, and owlbear fur as reagents.

From here, the party entered a ritual chamber, with an altar designed for The Ritual of Reunification.

From the ritual chamber, the party entered an inner sanctum in which there stood a giant statue of an earthworm, and runes on the wall all the way around the room. The runes were of a tongue ancestral to Demonic, Infernal, and Abyssal, and Tamash was able to decipher them as reading “SHIGAZILNIZTHRUB” – he almost said it aloud, then caught himself . . . one does not say the names of demonic beings lightly!

The party has much more to explore in the next session . . .
